Flight Suit
Jul 24th, 2009 at 10:38pm

Does anyone wear a flight suit?

In the summer I am fine with a wind-breaker but was thinking about a flight suit for the winter.

Would like to find a one for summer and winter flying.

I have worn the coveralls in colder weather. As a construction electrician, working outside for 15+ years, I got to the point where I didn't care about the weather. Not that I like being cold, I just wanted to go flying pretty  bad. Something as simple as putting rubber bands or velcro around your pants at the ankles can make a big difference too. I have also used a product for the  bikes made by Widder, who is now defunct but still available with variable heat that works great and really extends your season.

I like the idea of the velcro around the ankles.  Yes, that's
simple but I can see that would do the trick.

Thanks!

Velcro is good for many things. I keep several Velcro straps on my plane, usually wrapped around a tube. I use them for tying up loose steering lines and strapping down my risers to keep them from moving during trailering (open trailer) plus close off my pant legs when flying. You can get Velcro straps long enough at many places like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. I get them with hooks on one side and pile on the other.

Besides, if you have a front brake, they make a great parking brake!

My winter suit is not much different that my summer suit.
I live in the tropical part of Australia, average winter day temps of about 80. Pretty good for flying all year round.

Graeme. Cool

In the summer mornings its a light windbreaker, shorts and waterproof low cut shoes. In the summer evenings its t-shirt and shorts. In the winter its a insulated jacket, jeans and high top waterproof shoes. Below 30 degrees its a loose pair of sweat pants under oversized jeans and a insulated jacket under an oversized wind breaker. The sweat pants take care of any wind blowing up the leg area and the windbreaker takes care of any dampness. I can always unzip if too warm.
Its the layering of clothes and waterproof shoes I believe is the trick to comfort.

True. Block the wind and you stay warmer. Since your feet are right out there in front, your legs get the wind quickly.
